the [woosley] fire

shadows begin to creak
and soot pours into my sneaker
it is
q
u
i
e
t
but wait...there is sound
a brittle crunch
a hollow whistle
a wooden sigh

at the ravine we find mud
and a coyote's bones
neatly laid out
each rib softly rests
in its place

or maybe it is a pet friend

a pair of hawks shriek from above
we see you!
we see you.

my view opens up and out
i can see all the way across
all
the
way
across
to homes where my feet found warmth
and
to houses i peeked around corners to see

a storm of fire imagines in my eye
flickers and dies

as i walk and walk and sit and look and look
i spot sprites of kelly green
i can only think
i see you.
