tidied sidewalks

sometimes things just don't match up
at least not at first
like mowing the edges of overgrown headstones
where the weeds sprout and the grass grows long
just to come back a week later
to see those leafy limbs pushing back
like sweeping fallen petals and cig butts
from one end of the sidewalk
to the other
but sometimes its just about doing it
or doing something
you know?
wrapping your fingers around that contented feeling
like you have control
over the weeds
or petals
or cig butts
thinking that maybe one day you'll go back
and the edges will still be trimmed
and the sidewalk still tidied
but we know better
don't we?
